Honoring Sister Anna Marie
Our gratitude to Sister Anna Marie, of the Exaltation of the Cross, Pierre, OP, for her nine years of outstanding leadership. Prior to this, she wore many hats at the same time: the ICN representative for North America; appointed Vicaress of the Camden Perpetual Rosary Monastery; Novice Mistress at the Monastery of Mary the Queen in Elmira and at the Delaware foundation; and Vice President of the North American Association. All these roles laid the foundation for the role she assumed in building the beautiful monastery we all enjoy right now in Girard. During her term as Prioress, she was appointed Vicaress for the Monastery in Syracuse. There were nine sisters there in total, for whom it was urgent that she arrange for them to be placed in a nursing home where they could continue to live their contemplative life together.
On her last day in office, June 30, we celebrated Sister Anna Marie with a special party in her honor. One of our sisters taught us the tune, “She’ll Be Coming ’Round the Moun- tain When She Comes,” and wrote new lyrics which highlighted some of Sister Anna Marie’s characteristics. We took every opportunity we could to practice when Sister was not around. We even pooled our musical talents to create what was, for the first time, our very own monastery orchestra. And with our ventriloquist who added to the entertainment, what better way could we have celebrated the end of her nine years as Prioress? What a joyful and memorable day it was indeed! Please join us in praying for Sister Anna Marie in a special way, as we hope she enjoys a long deserved rest and many blessings as she begins this new chapter of her life. May the Lord reward her generously for all that she has given to our community and bless her abundantly in the years ahead.
